Weekly Learning Update

Math
We continued to practice multiplication strategies such as drawing models, using repeated addition, skip counting and drawing arrays. Students are learning to use the vocabulary of factors and products to describe multiplication sentences. Students in Grade 3 are expected to demonstrate an understanding of multiplication to 5 X 5 by modeling, representing and recording the process.

Below is an open ended problem we solved this week. Ask you child to show you a way to solve it.

Four plates all have the same number of sandwiches on them. How many sandwiches, in total, might there be? What number of sandwiches could not be the total number on the plates. Explain your thinking.

Students had fun practicing their skills with a variety of multiplication games.

Gym
Students are working on building their stamina by trying to run 4 laps of the gym without stopping. Next week the challenge will be 5 laps.

They also continued to work on their gymnastic skills. The worked on different balances.

Our next stop as explorers of the world is The Ukraine.  This week students looked at specific land areas: the steppe, the mountains and the coast. We also learned about Pysanky Eggs, an important Ukrainian Easter tradition.

This blog post also contains a FREE Show Don't Tell Bingo game! This week, students reviewed the 4 S's of strong writing: Specific Nouns, Strong Verbs, Sensory Details and Show Don't Tell.
