Weekly Learning Update

Word Work:
We had lots of fun playing Boggle this week. Click the link to try it at home. Boggle

Math:
We are learning to quickly recall addition and subtraction facts to 18. We worked on building some mental math strategies. Please continue to practice these facts at home.

Writing: Editing
This week we focused on editing skills. Editing is the process that helps make our writing look and sound better. We edit for grammar (do my sentences make sense), capital letters to start sentences and for proper nouns, correct punctuation and spelling (did I get all the sounds in for words I may not know how to spell).

Social Studies: India
This week we used a strategy called OWI (Observe, Wonder, Infer) as we looked at images of traditional clothing from India.

Gym:  Basketball
Students continued building their basketball skills and learned about shooting this week. They keys to shooting are: balance, eyes up, and follow through. Ask you child about what they are noticing about their basketball skills.

Science: Hearing and Sound
We started our new unit this week. We watched a video that tested our hearing. The students all had better hearing than the teachers! Today we did a vibration experiment using rulers and desks. Ask you child what they learned about vibration and pitch.
