Weekly Update December 14

Homework
1. Daily Reading for 15 to 20 minutes
2. No new spelling words this week
3. Oral Sharing will start again after the Winter Break. New topics will be sent home on Monday.

Reminders
1. Students need to track their daily reading minutes for the month of December. 
2. Please make sure your child has an extra pair of socks in their backpack for wet days.
3. Please send in your stuffed socks for The Alex by Monday the 17th
4. Please send in non-perishable food donations for the Mayor's Annual Food Drive by Monday the 17th
5. Pajama Day is on Friday, December 21st

Disney: The Movies, The Music is on Wednesday, December 19th

Daytime performances: 
     Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2: 12:50pm-1:45pm
     Grade 3 & 4: 1:55pm-2:55pm

Evening Performances:                                                                                    Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2: 5:30pm-6:30pm                                            Grade 3 & 4: 7:00pm-8:00pm

Weekly Learning Update

Math: Mental Math & Basic Facts 
We are learning to quickly recall addition and subtraction facts to 18. We continued to work on building mental math strategies. This week we explored different math centers and ways to make 10. Please continue to practice these facts at home.

Writing: Descriptive Writing
This week we focused on the 4 S's of descriptive writing.

Social Studies: India
This week students explored a variety of centers to help build their understanding of what life is like in India. Ask your child what they have learned about: natural resources and jobs, food, clothing, festivals and celebrations, wildlife and arts and recreation. We also read the book T is for Taj Majal - an Indian Alphabet Book that gave us lots of information.

Music: 

Students are busy preparing for the concert next week and are asked to practice the words to Bare Necessities at home.

Science: Hearing and Sound
Students had fun playing Guess the Sound? Ask them to tell you about using an app called Decibel X to record sound waves in different locations around the school.
