Weekly Learning Update
Math
Students in Grade 3 are expected to demonstrate an understanding of multiplication to 5 X 5 by modeling, representing and recording the process.
Language Arts
This week we finished planning our explorer stories and will begin writing our first draft next week. We looked at photographs of our setting to help wget ideas of sensory words to include. We also thought about what feelings the characters will have, that we could describe using the "show not tell" strategy. Our learning intention is to write an exciting and interesting story with including detail and juicy words. Our success criteria is including words and phrases from each of the 4 S's:
We are excited to share them with you at our Celebration of Learning!
Social Studies
This week we learned the Ukrainian alphabet called Cyrillic. We practiced the different sounds and learned some spoken words.
Science
We had a fantastic visit to the Bow Habitat Station. We learned all about the life cycle of fish and specifically the rainbow trout. We looked at real specimens of each stage of the rainbow trout's life cycle. We also got to examined live aquatic invertebrates under microscopes. It was a great day!
We created our own calendars for May to help us learn about the measurement of time. We will be keeping track of the weather daily for data collection and graphing.
We have also continued with our learning around multiplication. We have been paying close attention to the math all around us in the world. We read the book Amanda Bean's Amazing Dream by Cindy Neuschwander that has inspired us to create our own math and multiplication problems.

We have been continuing our Citizen Science work and have been keeping track of our observations on the inaturalist website. It has been interesting to see interactions with species identifiers, while trying to identify the species we observed last week around our school.
