Weekly Learning Update

Math
This week we learned strategies to solve division problems. We continued relating division to multiplication and used similar strategies; repeated subtraction, making arrays, sharing between equal groups and skip counting.

We also practiced our mathematical communication skills through number talks and explaining our thinking and our strategies out loud during class discussions.

Ask me about this fun problem we did:

Language Arts

We finished writing our explorer stories this week and we have been focusing on editing for spelling, the 4 S's, correct tense (past or present), capital letters, punctuation, our personal writing goals and checking if it makes sense. We started typing our stories on the computer to publish.

We have also continued our read aloud Wild Robot and have been making lots of connections to our animal science learning through this book.

Science

In Science we revisited our Citizen Science work and we spent some more time outside observing our environment now that the weather has started to change. We challenged ourselves to sit quietly and observe the animal kingdom using our senses. We decided that we want to spread the word and we are going to educate our school about Citizen Science. Look our for our displays at the Celebration of Learning!

Art

We began an art project to go along with our explorer stories. The inspiration is Barbara Reid, an author who illustrates her books using plasticine art. We are making our own plasticine art based on a scene from our story. This week we started the background and have been getting used to warming, mixing and spreading plasticine. Check out Barbara Reid's website:

Physical Education

We got to have gym outside at the beginning of the week. We played a fun game called four corner soccer.
